An estimated 640,000,000 kg, or 640,000 tons of discarded fishing gear ends up in the world’s oceans every year and is called ghost net or ghost fishing gear. Which equals the weight of 50,000 double-deckers. Ghost nets continue to fish for up to 600 years, killing millions of marine animals and fish every year. The nets are also accountable for more than 50% of the harmful microplastics in our oceans.
- In a joint effort through our initiative and collaboration with the Perfect World Foundation, we want to clean our oceans from plastic pollution. We want to increase awareness of the problem with plastic in the oceans and create a positive and green change in society with this collaboration. By donating a portion of our online sales from the Resort Collection to the organization contributes to just that. The collaboration means a lot to us to be able to contribute to protecting the most unique and threatened species and environments on our planet. Therefore, we are very proud of our collaboration with the Perfect World Foundation and we hope you want to join us on this journey, says Caroline Svedbom.
The Perfect World Foundations “Project Ocean” is about creating awareness about problems connected to ghost nets, protecting marine life from harm, and creating solutions that can be implemented globally to finally get an end to ghost nets and plastic in the ocean.
The turquoise water by the Greek coast has always been a special place for Caroline Svedboms founder and CEO, Caroline Svedbom. She finds her inspiration there to be creative and to create jewelry that spreads color and joy to woman all ages.
- Today we often associate the ocean with turquoise water, colorful corals and an enriched wildlife. In line with the drastic climate changes however, we know that this reality will change over time. That is why we want to be involved and make a difference, says Caroline Svedbom.
Caroline Svedbom has also previously contributed to The Perfect World Foundations by sponsoring a uniquely designed necklace created for The Perfect World Foundation Award 2022 – that was sold during the gala evenings auction.
